Suicide the End Phenomenon of Scientology

Scientology refers to death as "dropping the body" and suicide is called "ending cycle". How can an organization that calls itself a church be the cause of suicide?  Believe it or not, you can find  so many references of suicide directly related to Scientology that you would be reading for days and not get through them all.  Why do people in the "church" commit suicide?  After all. isn't Scientology supposed to make the "able more able"?  As far as I have been able to determine, there are two main causes.

First, there is disillusionment.  A person has given so many years, all of their money, basically their whole lives, only to find out that it was a scam.  They feel so used and embarrassed that they see suicide as the only way to feel better.

The second is caused by the diabolical Scientology process called the "sec check", or security check.  There are some security checks in Scientology that are designed only to break your mind.  I know.  I have been through it.  In my case, it left me feeling so dirty that I thought I would never be able to wash away the evil that they had made me feel was in and on me.  I have been out for almost eighteen years and this still affects me.

Today we will speak for the dead with the voices of the people who knew about the cases.

From a Glosslip Radio interview (April 25, 2008) with Marc Headley by Dawn Olson. [Excerpt, starting at 1h 24m 54s]:

MH: There is a girl by the name of Stacy Moxon, or Stacy Meyers. That's a girl that worked at the INT base. They said she committed suicide [sic] . . . she was electrocuted to death in a high voltage transformer vault. Well, somebody told me that she left a note. So, it wasn't actually an accident. The [Church of Scientology] make it, basically saying that it was an accident, she went in to save a squirrel or something. [...] That's the way they played it off, as that she was that nature loving girl who wanted to make sure the squirrel wasn't hurt, and then she slipped on some oil... 

No, she went in there and she grabbed the vault, that's what happened.

DO: Why did that happen?

MH: She wasn't allowed to leave the property to go see her husband and her family. And she wasn't being allowed to go, she was basically being held captive there, like every other person at the INT base. But she was new to the INT base, and she has been only in there for a few months. And she was basically, "I can't take this anymore." And she even threatened and told other people that she was depressed, she was separated from her husband who worked in Los Angeles.

Her own father is one of the lead litigation attorneys for the church, Ken Moxon. And he still fights for the church, even though that happened to his daughter. And he doesn't even know that there was a note. But he still fights for the church, his daughter is dead, because she wasn't allowed to go down and see them.

From the Affidavit of Hana Eltringham Whitfield (8 March 1994):


During my twenty years in Scientology, I delivered thousands of hours of auditing to others, among 

them preclears with similar experience to mine and worse, and some who committed suicide. [...]
199. Some attempted suicides that I know of:

(a) Jim Hester was a preclear at the Miami Org in the mid to late 1970s. He attempted suicide in Miami and
was then hospitalized in critical condition. He left a suicide note blaming Scientology, attached hereto in Exhibit 80, a copy of a GO report.

(b) Leah Theriery. She attempted suicide sometime in May 1974, attached hereto in Exhibit 81, a copy of a GO report.

(c) A friend of Gerald Simon's who was a Scientologist, attempted suicide by drinking a full can of RAID insect killer because he had been ordered to disconnect from his girlfriend.

200. I saw many Scientologists and Sea Org members go crazy and/or suicidal, like myself, while getting auditing.

This young Russian-studies scholar had jumped from a 10th-floor window of the Milford Plaza Hotel and bounced off the hood of a stretch limousine. When the police arrived, his fingers were still clutching $171 in cash, virtually the only money he hadn't turned over to the Church of Scientology, the self-help "philosophy" group he had discovered just seven months earlier.

From the Affidavit of LaVenda Van Schaick (1982):


The purpose of sending the PC folders to the Guardian's Office where a person had been designated SP or Fair Game was to use the contents of the folders to attack, threaten, blackmail and control the person and thereby prevent the person from seeking to collect refunds of moneys paid to the Church or to prevent the person from exposing the Church activities. The Church regularly and as part of its policy uses the material in these folders to blackmail and control its members in this way. I personally observed this done on numerous occasions contrary to the promises made to Church members. In one case, the Church declared a person named David Sandweiss an SP and threatened to expose auditing information revealed to his auditor by him if he sued for a refund or sought in any way to expose the Church problems. He thereafter committed suicide.

From the Affidavit of Andre Tabayoyon (5 March 1994):


42. I personally observed a number of other Scientologists go crazy and commit suicide as a result of the auditing processes. Bob Shaffner and I were serving sentences on the RPF's RPF together. Although inmates are not allowed to speak to each other while on the RPF's RPF, Bob made it a point to tell me two or three times daily that he was going to kill himself because of what he experienced during RPF's RPF & OT III auditing. One day we were working on dangerous machinery and Bob suddenly thrust his finger into the machine which cut his finger off. Scientology management was fully aware of Bob's condition. He was placed on the risk of suicide list. Because he was suicidal, his berthing quarters while in the RPF were limited to first floor facilities. Whatever was done, if anything, to help Bob failed. He successfully committed suicide several years later. [...]

45. I received instructions directly from Ray Mithoff to use the Hubbard Tech of thought reform to drive Tom Ashworth to a psychotic break. The express object of the exercise was to drive Tom crazy and to commit suicide.

I've not seen anything mentioned at whyaretheydead or anywhere on the internet about Dale Bogen's suicide while she was on services at ASHO back in Nov 1984. Does anyone remember her or the situation? I was out of town for 2 months and when I came back I asked around ASHO if any one had seen her. The D of P told me to speak to the Dir I & R, Bobby Schaffner, who I knew pretty well. I said," Bob, What's going on with Dale Bogen? The D of P told me to ask you." He asked me to step in and close the door, which I did.

Now, my 1st thought was this:  I knew that she was getting auditing but I also knew she was a petition-approved pc so I thought maybe something changed on that and asked him. I knew he'd be straight with me. "No, she was a pc" on a rundown that is sometimes given to people who are overwhelmed and unable to proceed in processing but she'd committed suicide after leaving the org one night back in November  (1984).

I was shocked. Here it was over a month later I did not know how to respond. This was, for me, the 3rd unexpected death of a Scientologist in over 1 year. It was so unreal. I could not imagine Dale doing something like that but then again, I did not know every personal thing about her. I asked how she died and how did he find out. He said the police contacted ASHO when they found her because she had receipts and some books in the car.  He said she took her car way up the main road in the Los Angeles Mountains, parked and plugged up the exhaust line with a rag or something and then got back in the car and went to sleep with the engine on. He knew nothing else.

I put my 'KSW  (Keeping Scientology Working) hat' on and I asked him if he made sure her folders got to Qual for rev and correction. He said "yes", but we both knew at that time that nothing was predictable and 'what was supposed to be and what actually happened were often 2 different things' . We just looked at each other and I could tell he was not the happy Bob I'd all come to know in the past. He looked so tired. We chatted for a few minutes about other things and I left.

 I finished up my cycles in Los Angeles and returned home shortly thereafter, seemingly blocking the whole thing out until I got news that Bobby had died after he'd struck a truck with his motorcycle on June 05,1987.

Philip Chandler Gale (1978, Los Angeles, California – March 13, 1998, Cambridge, Massachusetts) was a pioneering internet software developer and computer prodigy, an avid musician, and a Scientologist for most of his early life. Gale earned roughly a million dollars worth of stock options for his innovative internet service provider (ISP) programs at EarthLink, a firm established and bankrolled by members of the Church of Scientology. Gale chose Friday, the thirteenth of March (L. Ron Hubbard's birthday) as the day he wanted to commit suicide, falling to his death from a classroom window on the fifteenth floor of a building on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus. Several years earlier, he had left the church after deciding Scientology was not for him.

Shortly before his suicide, Greg left a post on the OCMB Message Board.  In it he said , “I was declared for objecting strenuously to some things that I saw as so out tech, off policy, out KSW that it broke through the fog and I refused to go along with it. I “enturbulated” so many people I was declared despite the fact my Comm-Ev agreed with me. I enturbulated them too, I was told. I was shocked to find myself on the street with nothing. I begged to be allowed to do the RPF. After many appeals and reviews I developed some serious medical problems that I knew would prevent me from getting up the bridge or back in the Sea Org this life time.

“Scientologists believe there is no such thing as death, you are a thetan occupying a meat body. I decided my only choice was to drop the body and pick up another one. I was not suicidal, it just seemed like the only logical thing to do. I didn't tell anyone. I decided to wait until my children (whom I had abandoned to my ex to join the Sea Org years before) were grown and independent, because we had become close and I knew it would hurt them to be abandoned again.

“Meanwhile, I went back to finish my degree, and got on the internet. I found Clambake and couldn't stop reading. There were so many stories of people I knew! Clambake and all the people who cared enough to tell their stories and make the truth about Scientology available on the Internet saved my life.

“For the last 10 years I was fooling myself regarding the services I was taking [with Scientology], and whether they were advancing me. I wanted them to be… In retrospect, I would have been better the last ten years to have focused on simply building a family life, and on work, as most people do… Being on the services the whole time was almost unbelievably demanding in terms of time, money and commitment. The fact that it did not ‘pay off’ has been an exceptionally bitter pill to swallow. The fact that at the end of the road I ended up in worse shape than I’d ever been in my entire life… well, that has been completely irreconcilable with any concept of reality.”

But Scientology’s abusive mind-control had damaged him beyond repair and left him with no way forward or back. After several thwarted attempts, Greg killed himself in June 2001 at the age of 46, leaving a wife, a 17-year old son and a father to mourn him.

Greg never blamed Hubbard, as he should have done, but blamed himself for the damage done. Because he had had psychiatric counseling and psychiatric drugs at college, he should not have been on the advanced levels. His psychoses – he was having dark thoughts about himself and felt he was covered with alien Body Thetans which he could not get rid of – were his inheritance from Scientology. Greg felt a glimmer of hope after speaking to a former member of the church’s Sea Organization, which is made up of full-time employees who hold its “most essential and trusted positions.” Greg got the impression that the man could use Scientology practices on him to correct the damage that had been done. After speaking to him, Greg promised his father he wouldn't kill himself. But this person said Greg was “really stuck.” Greg wanted “more than anything” to get back into the church but Gregg had failed a security check in Clearwater and had been declared a Potential Trouble Source. “The only place he could ever reach his spiritual freedom was gone,” he says. “His dreams were gone. Life was taken away from him.” He had been taught to believe Scientology was the only solution for his problems. “He was taught to believe psychiatry was evil – now he was in the hands of the most vicious, perverted people.”

Bashaw had spent more than twenty years of his life in Scientology. He gave the group everything he had, spiritually, socially, mentally, professionally, and financially. He wanted to lose his “reactive mind,” but in the and he just lost his mind. His father said: “There were periods of time he was rational and he realized he was losing it and it was a terror, a horrible thing to him.”

Part of this story is less attractive. Greg was one of the Scientologists most involved in the attack on CAN Cult Awareness Network), targeting individuals with black PR. This opens up the question of how commands to do harm are passed down within Scientology, to be followed with such fidelity by individuals whose every natural tendency is to do the opposite.

“The trip to Clearwater had been a disaster. “They threw him out,” Bob says. Greg told him the church 

staff had said he had some kind of medical or physical condition they couldn't help him with, then sent him away, telling him never to return. “That’s when I said, ‘Hey, holy shit. Look what he’s been involved in.’ This is when the whole thing hit the fan with me. I realized what the hell it had done to him.”

He left a note for his son: “Goodbye, you were a good buddy. Love, dad.”

In a press conference held a while back, Nancy Many, author of "My Billion Year Contract" says that when Greg's wife was in negotiations for settlement with The church of Scientology, they caught her alone, without any lawyer, or friend or person, and a very down spot and offered her a pittance.  She goes on to say that when she was given the form to sigh there was a line that "I will never speak to the press or write a book about what happened to my husband".  And she refused to sign it and said, "I might write".  The Scientologist that was giving her the pittance of a check said, "Oh that's ok, I'll just cross out that line because who would want to hear about your husband anyway.  Who would ever care, or read about the death of a Scientologist".

Scientology Cannot Be Saved

There are some who believe that if David Miscavige stepped down or were removed from the top office of the "church" of Scientology that somehow, the "church" will be magically be transported back to its heyday in the 1960's and 70's.  They say that Miscavige has changed Hubbard's writings in order to keep himself on top and to pad his ever increasing offshore bank accounts.  The truth, if you care to look, is somewhat different.  It actually looks like the main plan is to change Hubbard policy and basic information to make it more palatable for a more discerning public.  As only one example,  if you compare the Scientology Grade Chart from the early 80's to the current  one and look at the abilities gained on OT 8, Hubbard's version says:

Section VIII OT - Ability to be at cause knowingly and at will over thought, life, form, matter, energy, space and time, subjective and objective.

Whereas the Miscavige versions says:

New OT VIII - Handles the primary reason for amnesia on the whole track.

And of course, when the neophyte asks what the whole track is, he will be directed to the Scientology Technical Dictionary to make the point clear to him.

The first reason Scientology can't be saved is this.  If Miscavige has all this money stashed away (according to some it is over a billion dollars) and he steps down, the first thing he is going to do is run for the money and a safe haven (like West Samoa or Taiwan) where he can live like a king and not worry about extradition.  This would almost guarantee and end to the church.  If the person in charge of a large corporation absconds, the federal government would have to intercede with external audits on the various corporate entities under which the "church" operates such as Religious Technology Center, Church of Scientology International, Church of Spiritual Technology, etc.  That done, the "church" would be caught up for years in civil and bankruptcy courts, if not the criminal courts.

Also, the latest generation of Sea Org members are in thrall of Miscavige.  They have known no other leader.  If Miscavige did a runner, their faith would be smashed to bits.

And what of the Independents?  No hard line church member would listen to them.  They have too many "crimes" against Scientology.

Also, when the government finally steps in (let it be soon), everything will have to be entered into the public record.  All of the Policy Letters and Bulletins that the "church" has for so long tried to keep from the public eye for all to peruse, thereby exposing Hubbard's madness for everyone to see.

No, there is no salvation for this "church".  It is time to pull the plug.

Another Petition - Why We Should Sign It

Ok.  I know how you feel.  Every time we have had a petition up, even when we had the required amount of signatures, it hasn't gone the way we wanted it.  Now, it seems to have us daunted because the required number of signatures is much higher.  It is up to 100,000 now.  So far we have only gotten 2137 as of this writing.  We only have until February 20th to get the remaining signatures.

I would like to put this in sports terms for a minute.  Every time a batter comes to the plate, the odds against that man hitting a home run are 1 in 35.26.  Each time you come to bat, you are that much closer to a hit.  There is only of definite in this equation.  If you don't walk up to the plate, you will never get a hit.

This time we are asking that the President remove the religious and tax exempt status of the "church" of Scientology.  Here is the petition:

Recognize that the Church of Scientology is harmful to both its members and critics and revoke tax exempt 
status.

It is obvious that the Church of Scientology is physically and psychologically abusing its members in an attempt to extort from them.

Scientology is abusing its legal classification as a religion to deny its members basic human rights and operate as a criminal organization. It is time to revoke the status it so wantonly abuses.

It is also time to recognize the Church's abuse of the United States legal system to illegally impose its will on those that would criticize Scientology and its practices and bring to light the true purpose of Scientology: to take advantage of people through extortion, intimidation, and faux-religious blind-siding.

Susan Meister - Death and Cover-up On The High Seas

In the Fall of 1970, Susan Meister was young, full of life and had everything going for her.  She left her home town of Greeley, Colorado and headed off for new and exciting experiences in San Francisco, California. Then she met Scientology.  By November, 1970 she had fallen in love with the Church of Science Fiction and had joined staff at the San Francisco Org.  In February, 1971 she felt a need to be closer to L. Ron Hubbard and his goal of "clearing the planet", so she joined the Sea Org and joined him on the Scientology Flagship Apollo.  She tried several times to get her parents interested in Scientology, to no avail.  In her letters home, you can see her indoctrination was taking effect, controlling her life and thoughts more and more:


May 8, 1971

Mother,

Do you recall talking to me about WW III - and where it would start if it were to start - father and most everyone else maintained that it would start in either China or Russia vs. U.S. and you said - oh no- it would originate in Germany - that the Nazis hadn't given up yet - ? Well babe, you were right - there is a new Nazi resurgence taking place in Germany - so now it's a race between the good guys in the white hats (Scientologists) and the Leipzig death camp (Nazis) the bad guys in the black hats - we'll win of course - but the game is exciting. Truth is stranger than fiction. As Alice [in Wonderland] says "Things get curiouser and curiouser!" Get into Scientology now. It's fantastic.     - Love, Susan

May 12, 1971

Dear Family,
I just had a session, an auditing session (Scientology's hypnotic brain washing) I feel great!  Great GREAT! and my life is EXPANDING EXPANDING - and it's all SCIENTOLOGY Hurry up! Hurry, Hurry Be a friend to yourselves - Get into this stuff NOW - It's more precious than gold it's the best thing that's ever ever ever ever come along.  Love, Susan.

In June of 1971, Susan sent her family a letter expressing thanks for her birthday card and some gifts including a new dress her mother had made for her.  She once again expressed her desire for her mother to read Hubbard's books and to try some Scientology courses.  In this letter, she also shows how far down the rabbit hole she had fallen, to the point of having been infected by Hubbard's paranoia:


I can't tell you exactly where we are. We have enemies who are profiting from peoples' ignorance and lack of self-determinism and do not wish to see us succeed in restoring freedom and self-determinism to this planet's people. If these people were to find out where we are located - they would attempt to destroy us. Therefore, we are not allowed to say where this ship is located.

Ten days later, Susan was dead and that is where things get very strange.  Her father, George, was out of town when he received a phone call from his younger daughter telling him that there was a minister from the Church of Scientology at the home to inform them that Susan had died.  The minister's name was Artie Maren who was actually a public relations person from Scientology's Guardians Office (legal and strong arm division now known as the Office of Special Affairs).  George called a cousin who was an attorney and asked him to meet him in Greeley so they could find out what had happened.

They arrived and spoke to Rev Maren at length.  Basically, all the Maren could tell them was that Susan had been found dead in her berth aboard the Apollo of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the forehead. Near the end of the conversation, George asked that his daughter's body be shipped back home for burial.  A few days later, he received a letter from Bob Thomas at the Church of Scientology in Los Angeles explaining that the "Panamanian" owners of the Apollo were not obliged to give information to the Church of Scientology. However, the Apollo's captain, Norman Starkey, had offered to pay for a Christian burial in Morocco, but regretted that they would not pay for the body to be returned to the United States.  This, of course, set George off, and he decided to go to Morocco, to see if he could find out exactly what had happened.

Mr. Meister was met at Casablanca by Sea Org member Peter Warren.  When he arrived at his hotel he met with American Vice-Consul Jack Galbraith.  As he had been promised that he could see his daughter's body, they left the next morning for Safi, Morocco.  When he had spoken to police officials earlier, they showed him a picture of Susan that had been taken how she had been found.  In her dress that her mother had made for her.  Hands crossed over her chest with the Colt .22 caliber long barreled revolver lying on her chest  underneath her hands.  The police refused to give him copied of the reports, or even the picture.  When they arrived at Safi, they went to the morgue.  The attendant could not find the body.  From the reports, there was no trace of gunpowder residue on her forehead and no stippling around the wound. (Later forensic analysis would show that from the size and shape of the wound, the shot would have had to come from at least 16 feet away.) Peter Warren had to admit to George that he had requested and been granted Susan's brains and intestines (because the paperwork said he had).  When asked why, he said they wanted them for testing because the suspected she had been on drugs.

George arranged to have his daughter's body shipped back home.  As he was in the same port as Apollo, he asked to see the ship.  He was allowed on board.  He asked Warren if he could see Hubbard, on a father to father basis.  Hubbard, the humanitarian, declined the meeting.  By this time, George was feeling a bit threatened and decided to arrange an earlier flight home.  As he was preparing to leave his hotel, he discovered that all 32 rolls of film that he had shot were missing, including the two rolls he had shot aboard Apollo.  When he arrived at the airport, he was confronted by a very large man who told him that "they" were watching him and so were the C.I.A. and the F.B.I. (a typical Scientology caper).  The Scientologists even went as far as blackmail"

"the Apollo's port captain threatened in the presence of the American Vice Counsel from Casablanca, William Galbraith, that he had enough material, including illicit photographs of Miss Meister, to smear Miss Meister." 

After George had arrived home, he was contacted by a woman who worked for the Well County Health department.  They had received a letter from a "concerned citizen".  The letter is as follows:

"Sirs, Recently this reporter had disclosed to him some rather alarming news. I once had to cover a story in a small town such as Greeley, which had a rather primitive but nevertheless adequate health facilities. They chose to ignore a cholera warning from the World Health organization and, believe me, the results are not pleasant. "There has been a cholera epidemic in Morocco, and everyone leaving the country is required to have a cholera shot before leaving, and there is a public health campaign to get all citizens vaccinated. However, there is a shortage of vaccine. There have been a recorded two to three hundred deaths. And it's been brought to my attention that the daughter of one, George Meister, died in Morocco, either by accident or from cholera, probably the latter. Meister either already has or is in the process of bringing back the body to Greeley, and an epidemiologist that I have talked to concerning this said that this was pure insanity and that he knew of one exact such case that caused an outbreak of cholera. And I urge you to handle this health threat to all Greeley citizens. Everybody can be affected by this, and we cannot be.complacent with such a danger. "My informant believes the funeral home where the body is shipped is The Masons in Greeley. Please act quickly as lives could very well hang in the balance. I'm sending copies of this letter to most health official in the entire State of Colorado. My attorney has advise me not to reveal my name due to possible legal hazards, but if necessary I will do so to the press for my children live here and I have seen a cholera epidemic. Very sincerely, a citizen."


Fortunately, the lady knew George and was already aware that the actual cause of Susan's death was by gunshot.  This was just another example of the intimidation tactics that the "church" of Scientology uses to harass people, who they perceive are against them.  George and his family had been threatened and harassed  long before he ever testified to this, even to the point of tapping his telephones, and death threats.  All he ever wanted was to facts concerning his daughter's death.  Why did Scientology consider this a threat?

Yes Virginia, Narconon IS Scientology

In light of the recent deaths at Narconon Arrowhead and the news reports coming out about Narconon from around the world, I felt like I had to put in my two cents worth as well.  Most of this is probably old news to Scientology watchers, but I hope to educate some folks, and hopefully, keep some unsuspecting victim from going to a non-medical, un-certified drug and alcohol treatment program.

Let's get this out of the way right off.  Narconon is Scientology.  I know, Narconon says they just use some of Hubbard's materials, but they are not part of Scientology.  And, Scientology says that they support the actions of Narconon, but they are not over Narconon.  So, in police detective language, let's "follow the money". By the way, the average charge for the Narconon program is $35,000 U.S.D. Cash.

The name Narconon is a trademark registered under a corporation named A.B.L.E. which stands for the Association for Better Living and Education which is a non-profit organization headquartered in Los

Angeles, California, established by the Church of Scientology. It states that it is "dedicated to creating

a better future for children and communities."It promotes secular uses of L. Ron Hubbard's works, and

has been classified as a "Scientology-related entity" Through A.B.L.E., Narconon send at least a 10% "donation" to Scientology from it's weekly gross income for the use of the Hubbard "trademarks".  It may also only purchase it's training materials from Bridge Publications which is another Scientology corporation.

You need more evidence?  Ok.  One of our favorite sources, David Love (click here to see his web site), tells us that although the Scientology E-Meter is not used on patients, many staff members have their meters on the property to use on themselves and other staff members.  Scientology says that no one may be in possession of an E-Meter unless they are a trained Scientology auditor (counselor) and they must be a Scientologist in good standing.  Mr. Love also says that after a patient has graduated, they are given an interview, and then a Scientology security check, which is always done on the meter, then they are informed that the only way to make sure they remain stable in their sobriety, they need to do a process called the Scientology Drug Rundown, which can only be delivered at a Scientology Org at a cost of about $5,600 per 12 1/2 hours.

Then there are the famous Training Routines.  At Narconon, these routines are done after the patient has finished the detox (kicking off drugs, always done cold turkey, which is not the medically approved manner).  These training routines are completely Scientology.  In Scientology they are used to train the auditor  to be able to confront anything the pre-clear (person being counseled) says or does in session.  In Narconon, the patient is told that they must do these routines in order to be able to confront the Purification Rundown (sweat program).  Some of these training routines are as follow:

Body Control

The student moves the coach's body around a room. In the first half of the routine the student "steers" the coach by silent actions. In the second half, the student uses verbal commands such as "Walk over to that wall." Each successful verbal command must be acknowledged.

High School Indoc

This routine is similar to TR-6, except that the coach resists the student verbally and physically. The student may use physical contact to enforce a command. The routine continues until the student can fully control the coach despite attempts to stop control.

Tone 40 on an Object

The student repeatedly commands an ashtray to stand up and sit down, acknowledging each action. Although the student holds the ashtray throughout the exercise, the goal is to cause the ashtray to move purely by tone 40 intention. (Absolute knowledge that nothing will get in the way of your intention.)

Tone 40 on a Person

As in TR-6, the student moves the coach around a room with verbal commands. The coach resists, and the student must use a combination of smooth physical control and unspoken intention to make the coach obey. The routine continues until the student can maintain exact intention despite resistance.

In Scientology, these are known as the Upper Indocs (Indoctrination: to imbue with a usually partisan or sectarian opinion, point of view, or principle).  The only purpose of these TR's is to teach the student to be controlled by another and to be able to control others.

As for the Purification Rundown (at Narconon it is known as the "sweat program"), it is a potentially deadly process that consists of taking massive (toxic) doses of vitamins and minerals, exercise and up to 5 1/2 hours in the sauna per day.  They will not tell you this, (because secrecy is the Scientology way), but to a person who has suffered many years of alcohol or drug abuse, high amounts of Niacin can shut down a person's liver that has already been compromised by alcohol and/or drugs.  If you have never seen anyone who has died of Cirrhosis, I can tell you it is a horrible way to die.

And lastly, I will let David Love tell you about the feeling of loss, pain and guilt that the staff member has to deal with.  Thank you for being here.

Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

This is a matter of public record. My question is, why has the U.S. Attorney General not  done anything about this?

 

Deposition with Gary Scarff:

"Q...... do you have any personal knowledge of conspiracies to murder and
suicide with regard to the Church of Scientology?"

A. Yes, I do.

"Q. And what is that personal knowledge briefly? As I say, we will get
into it later. "

A. Through a -- through several conversations by phone, also in a personal
meeting in November of 1991 and in a meeting in December of '91 at the Church
of Scientology Saint Hill organization building, where the Office of Special
Affairs and Bowles & Moxon is actually located, I was directed, one, to go to
Chicago, Illinois and to murder Cynthia Kisser, Cynthia Kisser being the
Executive Director of the Cult Awareness Network, by a staged car accident.

"The suggested method was cutting her brake lines but it was later talked about
that because Cynthia Kisser drives a Ford Bronco that it might not be possible
to cut a brake line, so therefore, I could release brake fluid and tamper with
the vehicle in such a way that it would render it out of control at which time
I would be in a vehicle behind it. I would run her off the road, hopefully
running her into a ditch or into a tree. And then making sure she did not survive
the accident.

"So the suggested ways of following up was to take a pillow and smothering her
to death. Another method was dragging her out of the vehicle and drowning her.
It was also discussed including her young daughter and killing her in the
accident.

"Q. Mr. Scarff, Are you okay to continue?"

A. I didn't know she had a young daughter at the time.

"Q. Would you like to take a break?

= = = "Q. What was said at that meeting by whom?"

A. First David Butterworth recalled my meeting with him. Just prior to that it was
like two and a half weeks prior to that when I first met him at the Cult Awareness
Network conference in Oklahoma City and he recalled our conversation where I asked
him if I was doing all I could to meet their conditions of amending my past where
I was not obedient and where I had cursed the Church of Scientology and where I had
made up lies to hurt the Church of Scientology when I was angry at the world and he
said there was one more thing that they wanted to do. And it was something that
would ultimately bring down the Cult Awareness Network.

"They said that up to that point that everything they had tried to do was not
successful and that they wanted to get rid of Cynthia Kisser once and for all because
she was the whole reason that the Cult Awareness Network existed. She was the glue
that held it together and if they could get rid of Cynthia Kisser once and for all
that there would be no one there competent enough to replace her. And it was Eugene
Ingram that said that Priscilla Coates might step in but that the "old broad" was
"not intelligent enough or didn't have enough time on her hands or something to that
effect that she would be able to walk in and take over for Cynthia Kisser.

"So in order to destroy the Cult Awareness Network all we had to do was destroy
Cynthia Kisser. And I assumed when he said this that he meant simply attacking her
credibility as they have done in the past but doing it with much more vigor than they
have done so in the past.

"Q. What else was said at that conversation, at that meeting?"

A. Only that they talked to me about the specific operation where, if I performed this
operation that if L. Ron was still alive he would be honored to have me at his side
and that Mr. Ingram informed me that David Miscavige was personally aware of this
operation and considered it an honorable role on my behalf, would welcome me with open
arms if I was to perform this operation, and then we got into the specifics of what
they wanted me to do.

"Q. And were the specifics what you testified about with regard to Cynthia Kisser just
before the break -- let me withdraw the question.

"Q. What were the specifics of the operation very briefly?

A. The specifics of the operation was for me to fly to Chicago O'Hare Airport, rent a
vehicle with the information provided to me by the Office of Special Affairs in Los
Angeles and the OSA in Chicago particularly with the tools provided to me by Randy
Kretchmar, who is an official of the OSA in Chicago, to follow Cynthia Kisser home,
run her off the road and take all steps necessary to render Cynthia Kisser dead.

"It was also discussed for a greater impact in these events that if someone within the
Cult Awareness Network got smart enough to replace Cynthia with someone else, and that
if Cynthia Kisser had her daughter with her, it would be an added benefit to kill
Cynthia Kisser and to kill her daughter as well, because when a child dies it carries
a greater impact in the ; minds of the public than if simply an adult dies, and that
would send a message to the Cult Awareness Network that it was time to end their hatred
toward whom they perceived to be }cults.

Q. Now, was Gene Ingram present at that meeting?"

A. He was present, yes.

Q. did he say anything at that meeting?

A. Yes, he did. He told me that there was absolutely no way that I could be held
accountable if I -- there is no way I could be caught -- first of all, that immediately
after I did it I was to fly back to Los Angeles and that Mr. Ingram would be responsible
for putting me into to a safe house and if need be, he could ferret me out of the country
to Brazil or Mexico City or one of the other places that they have established safe houses
at. And that they would keep me there until the steam blew off or until Bowles & Moxon was
successful enough in impeding any type of legal investigation towards me and that I would
be held not accountable for these crimes, and it was specifically discussed that they
would put me into hiding and that any type of criminal investigation that was pending towards
me, any type of legal investigation that may have started as a result of this murder, that
Bowles & Moxon would step in and throw so many legal maneuvers at the courts that there is
no way that I would be eventually prosecuted for this crime. And Eugene laughed and said that
--he said, 'Trust me. I mean the court dockets are so overloaded right now, if Bowles & Moxon
was to throw all these legal maneuvers at the courts there do be absolutely no way that
prosecutors would find the time to want to prosecute you for something like this.

"Q. Now, I think you said that there was some discussion with Mr. Ingram as to how he could
hide you after killing Cynthia Kisser?"

A. Yes. He said, like I said before, he said he had relatives in Brazil. He could get me to
Brazil. I told him that I didn't have a passport because the only places that I have been
out of the country was Mexico and Canada and they didn't require passports. He said he could
provide me a passport. I wouldn't even have to go down to the Post Office and apply for it.
That he could give me one right away.

"And he also said that he had a son in Colorado going to college and that there were places
in around the Denver & Boulder, Colorado areas which could be used as safe houses where they
could hide me.t (Deposition of Garry L. Scarff, at p. 34_, In. 4 - p. 365, in. 9.)

"Q. Now, there is the word "Moxon" in the word Bowlers & Moxon. Do you know who Moxon
refers to?

"A. Yes. That refers to attorney Kendrick Moxon.

"Q. And have you met attorney Kendrick Moxon?

A. Yes, I have.

"Q. And during the worst of your meetings with Kendrick Moxon, have you obtained any
understanding as to part of his background?"

A. Yes, I have.

"Q. And what is that understanding you have as to earlier significant events in his
background?"

A. In both conversations with Mr. Moxon himself, he seems pretty proud of the fact, and in
conversations with Eugene Ingram, David Butterworth and Sue Taylor, who is the Director of
Public Affairs, Church of Scientology in Washington, D.C., Mr. Moxon was one of the original
co-conspirators involved in Operation Snow White against the FBI and the Internal Revenue
Service which resulted in the arrest and conviction of 11 high-ranking members of the Church
of Scientology in Washington, D.C. which also included the imprisonment of L. Ron Hubbard's
wife, Mary Sue Hubbard.

"Mr. Moxon is very proud of the fact that he was intimately involved in that whole unlawful
affair and the FBI never caught him. He is proud of fact that he got away with doing unlawful
stuff and he never got arrested or convicted for it.

"Q. Have you had any conversations with Mr. Moxon in which you gave he that impression?"

A. Yes. I did. When I spoke to Moxon my serious concerns about being caught and prosecuted for
killing both Cynthia Kisser and killing Ford Greene, he mentioned this Snow White operation in
which he was a part of and he tried to assure me there was absolutely nothing to worry about
because I could trust him and I could trust the other legals to help me get away with this.
He claimed there was no way anyone was going to find out.

Q. Before we proceed with a discussion of the meeting regarding the conspiracy to murder Ford
Greene, I would like to return briefly to the meeting you testified to regarding the conspiracy
to murder Cynthia Kisser.

"Now, did there come a time that weekend or at the end of that weekend when you left Los Angeles?"

A. Yes, I did. I left on Monday.

"Q. And before you left Los Angeles did you have any further meetings at the Church of
Scientology? "

A. Yes, I did.

"Q. And with whom did you have any such further meetings? "

A. Eugene Ingrarn took me upstairs to the offices of Bowles & Moxon because he said that Tim and Kendrick wanted to say good-bye to me because they had not had the chance to speak with me before. And I said good-bye to Tim but Kendrick was in a depo or a session of some sort according to Eugene so I didn't get to see him. But Tim greeted me very warmly and said that he knew that I was there for the weekend but he was busy with stuff and hadn't had the chance to talk with me, and
that was it.

"Q. By 'Tim and Kendrick' who do you mean? "

A. I'm talking about Timothy Bowles and Kendrick Moxon, who are attorneys for Bowles & Moxon, the in-house law firm for Scientology.

"Q. Now, did you have any understanding as to their knowledge, if any, of the meeting you had had
regarding the conspiracy to murder Cynthia Kisser? "

A. I presumed from my knowledge and my experience within the Church of Scientology and the policies that are strictly adhered to within the Church of Scientology that one does not speak on behalf of another, and that when Mr. Ingram and Mr. Butterworth were advising me that once the murder had been committed that we would have Bowles & Moxon intervene on my behalf on a legal basis, I was confident then that Tim Bowles and Kendrick Moxon knew exactly about the conspiracy because Ingram -- Particularly David Butterworth, who is a Scientology member, in the face of being punished with RPF would not compromise his high- ranking position in the Church of Scientology by saying something with regards to Bowles and Moxon unless Bowles & Moxon was specifically aware of the statement that was being made to me.

"And so it was my confident feeling that Timothy Bowles given the fact of the way that he greeted me, said that he knew that I was in L.A., that Timothy Bowles was very knowledgeable about the plan for me to go to Chicago and kill Cynthia Kisser and her daughter." 

Scientology Murder Plot Uncovered

CLEARWATER FL. --- In shocking testimony under oath before a packed courtroom
and before a panel of city council members, Scientology management staff member
Scott Mayer, who has been a Scientologist for twelve years, testified to
witnessing numerous felonies committed by the Scientology organization including
extortion, witness intimidation, perjury, international customs and immigration
laws violations, money laundering, framing innocent people of crimes, conspiracy
to impede government agencies, cruel and unusual punishment against Scientology
members, fraud against the United States Postal Service, the ill treatment of
children, slavery, and plotting the murder of various individuals. Mr. Mayer
testified he has personal experience with the Scientology organization in all
of these areas.

"While I was in the Sea Org, I was instructed to kill another human being by the
Scientology organization," Scott Mayer testified. "At the time Scientology had an
office on Beacon Avenue in Los Angeles, very close to McArthur Park. I was called
in for a briefing by Alex Sibryski. At that time, Scientology had a ranch at
Rosarito in Mexico which was being used as a nursery, a place for overflow kids
that could not be housed in Los Angeles and a place to grow fruits and vegetables.
Mexican bandits were allegedly harassing and hustling the ranch and stealing produce
from it. Jerry McDonald and I were asked to put together a mission to go down to
Mexico, take some infrared optics and some guns and rifles, wait for the Mexican
bandits to attack the ranch again and then take care of them. We were told to kill
them if necessary. I received these orders from Alex Sibryski."

Mr. Mayer testified that due to his testimony and his work with the Internal Revenue
Service, he now fears for his life. "In terms of the Fair Game Policy itself, of
course, I have no way of proving that the 'Church' of Scientology blew up my car.
I just have the knowledge within myself that that's where I told them I was and that's
where it got blown up. [Chuckle] The fact that I didn't live there was to my credit,
not theirs. [Chuckle]" Mr. Mayer later added "[I am] fearful for the security and
safety of my mother, sister and friends and discovered through questioning same
that they were all terrified of my involvement in [these matters]... Scientology had
already asked me to kill somebody, so why wouldn't they ask somebody else to kill me,
I reasoned."

Mr. Mayer testified that the Scientology organization drills its staff members on how
to avoid national and international laws and how to "get around" government officials
and legal requirements.

Mr. Mayer is not the only Scientologist who has testified that the Scientology
organization has ordered him to commit murder. Scientologist Steve Fishman has also
sworn under oath to have been ordered to murder his psychiatrist, Dr. Geertz, and
then commit suicide.

"On the basis of my experience and knowledge of Scientology," Scott Mayer said, "I
believe it very possible that Steven Fishman was ordered to engage in the securities
class action fraud by Scientology, and then to murder Dr. Geertz and commit suicide."

Mayer also testified about systemic suicides among Scientologists. "On the basis of
my experience, education and training in Scientology, I believe there is a very
strong connection between Scientology and suicide."

Mr. Mayer left the Scientology organization after he could no longer rationalize the
crimes and abuses he witnessed and engaged in under the orders of his Scientology
bosses. "The reason I left Scientology, by the way, was because of the things that
I saw and participated in through my tenure with the 'Church,'" Mr. Mayer testified.
"It got to the point where I could no longer in my own mind justify what the 'Church's'
policy in handling government agencies and society was; they were allegedly there
to save."

Mr. Mayer said the organization extracted millions of dollars a week from its victims.
"I don't believe for one second that Scientology is a bona fide religion," Mr. Mayer
added.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I strongly feel that it is my civic duty to bring to the attention of
the competent authorities of the United States and other concerned countries
a matter of severe abuses and destructive activities by the "Church" of
Scientology. I am at their disposition for more information on all of this.

I was shocked at the use of top celebrities by Scientology to try and
give an impression of it which, per my own experiences, is a false impression.
When I compare the ridiculous charges made by Scientology against the
German government with what I know Scientology (underlined) has been
doing itself I find a very strong similarity indeed. I have decided to speak out
about this publicly.

I was, until earlier this year, one of Scientology's "celebrities". I
am a professional artist, having a 25 year career internationally with over
99% sales. I was in Scientology for 23 years, did very many courses, and
reached the highest available level of "New O.T.8." My knowledge of the inner
workings of Scientology is extensive. I have information about the many
instances of abuses of current and former Scientology members and of lies
Scientology has generated about itself to give a wrong public impression.

Among the many things I can relate, here are just a few from recent times:

1) From 1991 to 1996 I was the subject of viscous machinations by
several "churches" of Scientology to destroy my name and repute, and
to involve me in expensive "justice handling" within the organization.
Apart from the horrific emotional stress over five years it cost me well over
$120,000 to clear my name of accusations of things I had never done
in the first place! I have full documentation of all these multiple abuses.

2) In June of 1996 I was held against my will in the Scientology, Clearwater,
Florida facility and "ordered" to pay $7,400 before they would let me out
of the room. I did not want to pay for what the two staff members insisted
I must have, and what ensued was a verbal battle, emotional trauma and
an attempt at financial extortion. After a time I managed to escape the
physical detention, but two "Sea Org" members chased me right out into
the streets of Clearwater to try to recapture me. I did not pay the money. This
incident is on file with the Clearwater Police Department.

3) In June of 1991 I was forced to pay, despite vehement protestations, the
sum of $7,400 to Scientology on the "Freewinds" ship. The ruse used
on that Wednesday was that if I did not pay then they would withhold my passport
from me until I did pay. They did so and I had to pay the money to get
it back.

4) At the end of 1996 I was subjected to [a] horrible kind of "religious
deprogramming" in the Scientology "Fort Harrison Hotel". This was done,
using an "E-meter", by a top official of the "Religious technology Center" (RTC)
namely Mr. Marty Rathbun. I was interrogated for several hours on the most
intimate personal religious beliefs (Christian) and his actions were designed
clearly to get me to give up my Christian religious beliefs in exchange
for RTC's "eligibility authorization" to read a confidential publication
about a defective "OT level" I had previously completed (OT 7).
His utter contempt for my religious beliefs were all to apparent. He felt
that all other religions apart from Scientology should be destroyed and
probably would be in time by Scientology, using RTC's programs
of "eligibility's" as the means of forcing people to give up other faiths.

I also had to undergo many hours of 'false data removal",,,to try to
"get me to realize" that the ONLY valid religion was Scientology.

It did not work.

My considered, personal opinion is that Scientology is definitely
NOT A RELIGION.

These are a few of the many things I can testify to.

is true and correct per my own personal experiences.

Hold David Miscavige Accountable for His Crimes

David  Miscavige and the leadership of the Church of Scientology have been  able to get away with human rights abuses against the public,  journalists, rank & file Scientologists and former Church leadership  for decades. Recent defections of high ranking former leaders finally  make it possible for Miscavige to be held accountable for crimes  including kidnapping, conspiracy and assault — but only if the FBI and  Department of Justice take action!

On Thursday, February 9,  Debbie Cook, a former member of the Scientology leadership, testified  under oath about crimes, including kidnapping and assault, that she'd  witnessed being perpetrated under the direction of David Miscavige.   Also on hand and ready to testify in the Bexar County (TX) court about  Miscavige's crimes were former Scientology leaders Marty Rathbun and  Mike Rinder.  Once they realized how damning Ms. Cook's testimony was,  and how it would only get worse once Mr Rathbun and Mr. Rinder took the  stand, the Church dropped it's proceeding against Ms. Cook rather than  allow her to continue to speak about Miscavige's crimes in open court on  the public record.

Those who have broken free of David  Miscavige's grasp have been telling their tales of his reign of terror  for decades.  Law enforcement finally has a chance to do something to  stop him.  I urge you to immediately investigate the crimes committed by  Mr. Miscavige and the leadership of the Church of Scientology and see  that they are brought to justice!

Yes, They Actually Treat Their Kids This Way

This is another story of a girl who was born into Scientology. 
How can parents treat their children this way?  It happens all
the time.

My mother found Scientology in her early 20s. She came from an
extremely dysfunctional family and the Church promised to make her
a better person and fulfilled her desire to help other people. They
became her family. Unfortunately for me and my brother (and my future
siblings), that meant all of her resources – all of her time and what
little money she had – went to the Church instead of to caring for us.

One of my first memories was being picked up by the police as I was
walking to the Church nursery by myself in a city that was known as the
murder capital of the United States. I must have been about 4 years old.
I was waiting for a light to turn green when a man took hold of my arm
and flagged down a police car. He couldn’t believe I was by myself and
wanted to make sure I was okay. The police drove me to the nursery
(following my directions) and made sure I arrived safely.

Suicide Cult

Sometimes, in my research, I feel like just giving up and having a good cry. But I feel that it is important to keep these names alive so that others be made aware that these problems exist in the Church of Scientology, even though they claim that there is no "case" that they cannot handle. Another sad thing is, because of the church's policies, most of the world as well as most members of the church will never hear the truth about these deaths.
